Spades

Learn a little. Play a hand.

LESSON 1 OF 4

You and your partner

Four seats form two teams: seats 1 and 3 are Emerald; seats 2 and 4 are Gold. Each player gets 13 cards. Spades are always trump; Aces are high.

In turn, bid how many tricks you expect to take. A trick is one card from each player. Partners’ non-nil bids combine. A bid of zero is Nil: a promise to take no tricks.

Partners sit opposite

Seat 1 ↔ Seat 3: Emerald Seat 2 ↔ Seat 4: Gold

Make your team bid

You bid 3 + partner bids 4 = your team needs 7 tricks.

Short a player? Add computers to empty seats before the host deals.
